Welcome to PACHYDERM, the first, only and most complete online magazine about elephants, rhinos and hippos in the world!!! We also contribute actively to the conservation of pachyderms by working together with conservation organisations and foundations, in- and ex-situ!
Elephants have always fascinated me. They are social, empathic, caring, ..., and despite their size they are very elegant.
Did you know that elephants are actually ballerinas? They are ‘digitigrade’, what means that they actually walk on their tip-toes.
But in the wild, elephants and other pachyderms are threatened. Habitat loss, degradation, fragmentation, illegal killing, poaching, illegal international trade in live wild-caught animals, tourist trade, human-animal conflict,... A long list of threats that makes pachyderms endangered species.
And that's the reason why I've started this website on Sept. 1, 2009. To inform the people about elephants and other pachyderms, to highlight their problems and threats, in the hope more people will be interested in the behalf of these animals, and will fall in love with these beautiful creatures!!!
The last few years PACHYDERM Magazine has grown extensively and is now the biggest and most complete source concerning pachyderms in the world. And PACHYDERM Magazine became PACHYDERM. We have grown from a news source to a real organisation focusing on pachyderms and their conservation. Anno 2021 PACHYDERM contributes actively to the conservation of elephants, rhinos and hippos by working together with conservation organisations and foundations, in- and ex-situ.
